3 Easy Campfire Desserts that Will Change Your Life

We don’t understand the alchemy behind it, but we believe with 100% certainty the following statement is true—

Everything just tastes better when cooked over a campfire.

And we do mean everything

Regular, run-of-the-mill hotdogs are suddenly extraordinary.

That same biscuit recipe you cook at home, when used in a dutch oven? Spectacular.

And don’t even get us started on campfire coffee.

The statement holds true for every meal…particularly when we talk about desserts. There’s something absolutely magical about turning everyday ingredients into quick, easy, and decadently delicious desserts that will be burned into your memory for eternity. (Too dramatic? I didn’t think so, either.)

In an effort to get you planning your next camping trip ASAP, we’ve gathered 3 incredibly easy and ridiculously delicious dessert recipes that will have you drooling by the end of this blog. So grab your bib and a napkin and let’s dive in!

Amped Up S’mores

You may be asking yourself, What the heck is wrong with traditional S’mores? They hit all the major dessert food groups—cookie, chocolate, and marshmallow.

While we do not disagree, we’ve learned a few tricks that can take your S’more game to the next level.

If you’re not ready to make major changes to your S’more architecture, try this single swap—ditch the pieces of chocolate bar for a couple of miniature peanut butter cups (or buy the larger ones and cut them in half). Though it sounds minor, this simple switch creates a peanut-buttery dessert that will have you swooning.

Reading to kick up one more notch? Leave the graham crackers behind and try using chocolate chip cookies, Oreo sandwich cookies, or any other cookie you like, and once again swapping the chocolate for candy bar pieces like Twix, KitKat, or Snickers. The only thing that remains constant is the marshmallow because, well, we aren’t monsters.

Roasted Banana Boats

This decadent dessert couldn’t be easier. Leave the peel on the banana but slice it lengthwise about halfway through (but avoid cutting all the way through to the opposite side). Pry the banana open and fill with treats of your choice—mini marshmallows (again, not monsters), crumbled graham crackers, peanut M&M’s, chocolate bars, and/or dried fruit—then wrap in foil and warm over the fire. Open it up and eat the ooey-gooey goodness with a spoon.

Grilled Fruit

Before you mutiny claiming fruit should not count as dessert, hear us out. Something amazing happens when you grill fruits like peaches, pineapples, or strawberries over an open flame. The natural fruit sugars caramelize and intensify leaving you with the perfect foil for a big scoop of vanilla ice cream.

For a fun treat with strawberries, skewer them alongside the marshmallows you’re toasting and allow the two to roast together—it’s a match made in heaven!

And there you have it…three spectacularly simple campfire desserts that will wow you with their ease of preparation and their amazing flavor.

It’s time to get your next outdoor adventure on the books, friends. We can’t wait to hear how these campfire culinary masterpieces work for you and your family!
