Why this is in the news

Governments Are Asking Households to Plan for Outages. Light Is the Easiest Place to Start.

Preparedness has been in the headlines this fall. Here's what has actually been announced, in plain terms.

Sept 30, 2026 · United States

The Pentagon's FORTRESS America initiative

A military resilience effort that includes independent power for installations, stronger supply chains and hardening against disruptions for up to 90 days. While aimed at military bases, it's a reminder that even the largest organizations are planning for widescale outages.

What this means for your home

You don't need a bunker or a basement full of supplies to take this seriously. Even simple outages start with something ordinary: ice on a line, a summer storm, a transformer that fails on the hottest night of the year.

Whatever the cause, the first problem is always the same. It's dark, and everything else you need is somewhere in that dark.

That's why light comes first. It's how you find the water, the medication, the breaker panel and each other. And it's one part of being prepared that you can finish this week.

Picture this tonight

The First 10 Minutes Without Power

It's 8:17 p.m. One person is getting ready for bed. Someone else is finishing the dishes. Then everything stops. The refrigerator goes quiet, the hallway disappears, and out the window the streetlights are off too.

  1. Minute 1
    Without a plan

Everyone reaches for a phone. A tiny light comes on, and you're already watching the battery percentage.

    With a plan

You grab the Sentinel 2000 off the nightstand. Its 2,000 lumens light up the whole room, and the phones stay in pockets.

  2. Minute 3
    Without a plan

Someone asks for a real flashlight. The one in the junk drawer is dead, and the spares are in a pitch-black garage.

    With a plan

Nobody goes hunting. The kids' Guardian LTE is on their nightstand, and another waits with the emergency supplies, batteries already in.

  3. Minute 7
    Without a plan

Someone needs the stairs. You want to check the breaker. A family member is walking up the driveway in the dark. One phone light can't cover all of it.

    With a plan

The Sentinel by the breaker panel lights the stairs and the box. Whoever is in the driveway has the Guardian from their glovebox.

  4. Minute 10
    Without a plan

You look down the street at the dark houses. This isn't a flicker, and you start wondering about the rest of the night.

    With a plan

Every light is charged or loaded, and everyone knows where theirs is. You spend the night looking after your family, not looking for light.

The power is still out. But nobody is fumbling, and nobody is alone in the dark.

The only lights you need

Two Flashlights. Two Jobs.

A good plan puts the right light in the right place. The Sentinel 2000 is the one you grab when you need to see far, act fast, and keep your family safe. The Guardian LTE is small enough to keep everywhere, so there's always one within reach.

The reach-and-protect light

Sentinel 2000 Tactical Flashlight

For lighting up the entire house, the backyard, the dog that won't come in or a walk to the car late at night.

At 2,000 lumens, the Sentinel lights up the far side of the yard, the whole garage or the end of a dark street. Its 10.5-inch aircraft-grade aluminum body feels solid the moment you pick it up, and its strobe can disorient anyone looking to do you or your family harm.

It runs on two rechargeable 18650 lithium-ion batteries, included, that charge right inside the flashlight with the included USB cord. One owner in the mountains uses his every morning and night and says the batteries "last for weeks on a charge" on the lowest setting.

The keep-it-close light

Guardian LTE Tactical Flashlight

For nightstands, gloveboxes, pockets, go-bags and the kitchen drawer.

The light that helps most is the one already within reach. At 5.5 inches, the Guardian LTE fits in a glovebox, a jacket pocket or a nightstand drawer without taking over the space. It still puts out 500 lumens, and its zoom head slides from a wide flood for a room to a tight spot for the end of the driveway.

It arrives loaded with three AAA batteries, the kind you can buy almost anywhere, and includes a sleeve so it can run on a rechargeable 18650 cell instead. It's rated IPX5 water-resistant for rain and wet roadsides.

Why not just buy a cheap multipack?

Because the light that matters is the one that works when you reach for it. Remember the junk-drawer flashlight with dead batteries? The Sentinel recharges inside the flashlight, so there's no hunt for fresh batteries in the dark. The Guardian runs on AAAs you can buy almost anywhere, or on a rechargeable cell if you prefer.

Both are solid aluminum, built to ride in a glovebox and get dropped on a driveway. And every Intervine light is covered by a 5-year guarantee, backed by a support team in the USA. One owner wrote that his two lights are "about 8 years old and are working perfect." That's what you're paying for: lights you can still count on years from now.

Both lights come together in two complete sets.

The six-light plan

6 Places Your Family Needs a Light Before the Next Outage

One flashlight in a drawer is a start. A plan means a light is already waiting wherever someone will be when the power goes out. Here's the setup we recommend for a typical household. Adjust the spots for your home, your vehicles and the people in it.

Six-light home plan: Sentinel 2000 lights by the breaker panel and primary bed; Guardian LTE lights in the kids room, kitchen supplies, car glovebox and second car or go-bag. Six-light home plan: Sentinel 2000 lights by the breaker panel and primary bed; Guardian LTE lights in the kids room, kitchen supplies, car glovebox and second car or go-bag.
  1. 1Sentinel 2000

By the breaker panel or utility area

The first question in any outage is whether it's just your house. That usually means a trip to the breaker panel, often in a garage or basement with no windows. A full-power beam combined with the heft and protection of the Sentinel means you'll never fear the dark again.

  2. 2Sentinel 2000

    On your nightstand

Outages often hit in the middle of the night. When you wake up to a dark, silent house, the strongest light should be within arm's reach of whoever gets up first. The Sentinel reaches the end of the hall and the back fence, and its strobe is there if you need to signal or be seen.

  3. 3Guardian LTE

In the kids' room or guest room

A child who wakes up in total darkness shouldn't have to feel their way down the hall to find you. A compact light on their nightstand lets them come to you safely, and it's small enough that it doesn't feel like emergency gear.

  4. 4Guardian LTE

    With your emergency supplies

Water, food, medication, a first-aid kit and a radio do no good if you can't see them. Keep a Guardian in the same bin or kitchen drawer so the light is waiting with everything else. Because it runs on AAA batteries, it's easy to keep spares right beside it.

  5. 5Guardian LTE

    In the glovebox

Storms and outages don't wait until you're home. A breakdown, a road closure or a flooded detour can leave you on a dark roadside. The Guardian fits in a glovebox, is rated for rain, and has an SOS mode for signaling.

  6. 6Guardian LTE

In the second car or a go-bag

If you ever have to leave in a hurry, or a family member is away when the lights go out, they take their light with them. One in the second vehicle or packed in a go-bag means nobody is the person without a flashlight.

Two Sentinels and four Guardians, with batteries for every light. That's exactly what's in the Family Protection Set.

Lights You'll Use Long Before the Next Outage

Emergency gear that sits in a box gets forgotten. Intervine owners use these lights every week: walking the dog, working the night shift, camping, riding in the truck. A light you use is a light you know is charged, and one you can operate in the dark without thinking.

Questions about modes, batteries or where each light should go? Our support team is based in the USA, and owners often thank them by name in their reviews.

When your lights arrive: a 10-minute setup

  1. Give each light a place. Use the six spots in the plan, adjusted for your home.
  2. Turn every light on. Learn the modes and check that each one is charged or loaded.
  3. Show everyone. Ask each person to point to the light they'd grab if the house went dark right now.
  4. Set a reminder. Every few months, test each light and top up the batteries.

Questions

Before You Choose

Which set should I choose?

If you want the full six-light plan, with a light in the bedrooms, the utility area, the kitchen and both cars, choose the Family Protection Set. It's also the better value at about $26.66 per light. The Power Duo is a good start for a smaller home, a couple, or anyone adding to lights they already own.

What's the difference between the Sentinel 2000 and the Guardian LTE?

The Sentinel is the full-size light: 2,000 lumens, a 10.5-inch aluminum body and built-in rechargeable power. The Guardian is the compact light: 500 lumens with an adjustable zoom beam, 5.5 inches long, and it runs on AAA batteries or a rechargeable 18650 cell. Most homes need both kinds.

Do the lights come with batteries?

Yes. Each Sentinel comes with two rechargeable 18650 lithium-ion batteries and a USB cord for charging inside the flashlight. Each Guardian arrives with three AAA batteries already loaded, plus a sleeve that lets it run on a rechargeable 18650 cell instead. The Guardian's 18650 cell is sold separately.

How long do the batteries last?

For most outage tasks, like walking a hallway or finding supplies, low or medium mode is plenty, and lower modes stretch a charge much further than high. One Sentinel owner who uses his light every morning and night on the lowest setting says his batteries last "for weeks on a charge." And because the Guardian runs on AAAs, a spare pack in your supply bin gives you fresh power any time.

What if the power stays out for more than one night?

Plan to pace your light. Use low modes for everyday tasks and save high for when you need distance. Keep spare AAA batteries with your supplies for the Guardians, and recharge the Sentinels with their USB cords from any USB charger. If you also want to light a whole room for several nights, consider adding an Intervine lantern like the Monster 2000, which runs for up to 31 hours.

Can I keep these lights in a car or use them in the rain?

Both lights are solid aluminum and built for the car. The Guardian is rated IPX5, so rain and splashes won't stop it, and it fits in a typical glovebox. The Sentinel is water-resistant and fits under a seat or in a door pocket.

Where should I store spare 18650 batteries?

Somewhere cool and dry, in a protective case, away from coins, keys and other loose metal. Check their charge every few months when you test your lights.

Do these make good gifts?

Yes. Many owners buy extra lights for parents, adult children and friends. A light for each household is a practical gift that gets used long after the holidays.

What guarantee comes with my lights?

Every Intervine light is covered by our 5-year guarantee, and you have 30 days to return your order for a refund, no questions asked. If you need help, our support team is based in the USA.

Ready before you need it

The Best Time to Set This Up Is While the Lights Are Still On
